Door County Bike Plans Move Forward

Door County is increasingly popular among bicyclists, but woefully short on infrastructure to usher them around the county safely. But a few municipalities are stepping up to work on better routes.

Take a drive, or better yet, a ride through Fish Creek and you’ll understand why it’s time make it easier and safer to bike the peninsula, both for recreation and transportation.

Bike lanes can take on many forms, from separate lanes, to raised curbs, to simple lines or painted lanes. Sometimes it can be done with simple reminder markings and signs urging drivers to share the road.

Egg Harbor will discuss a proposal to work with the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin on a comprehensive plan at tonight’s meeting. Gibraltar hosts a public meeting to gather input on their plan tomorrow at 7 pm.

Hopefully, these are just early steps in making Door County a great place to power your own transportation, safely.
