Egg Harbor to revamp little league field

Before hitting the field next summer, little leaguers in Egg Harbor will see their field transform into a neater, safer place.

Through a joint effort of the Town and Village of Egg Harbor, the little league field next to Fire Station No. 1 on Harbor School Road will undergo a makeover of sorts. Town Board Member Bob Mueller Sr. brought the improvement idea to the boards.

The baselines, which now share their clay pathway with encroaching grass, will be cleaned up. The pitcher’s mound will be built up. The fence, which has holes in places and does little to keep foul balls in the field of play, will be replaced, along with one of the bleachers.

The Town and Village will split the $23,000 cost.

Village Board Member Bob Dickson said the fire station’s renovation influenced the decision, as did the Door County baseball tradition.

Baseball’s a big part of Door County and the little league is still playing,” Dickson said. “We thought it was worthwhile to invest in our ball field.”
