Final Two Master Gardener Lectures Announced

The Door County Master Gardeners announce the final two 2015 continuing education programs of the season. Both lectures are free, open to the public, and will be held at Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay at 7 pm.

On April 21, Chriss Daubner, veteran Door County Master Gardener Volunteer, will present “Prairie Plants for the Home Garden.” She will discuss why it makes sense to use prairie plants focusing on their aesthetics and their ecological advantages. Tough, but beautiful prairie plants are a great choice for home gardeners particularly when gardeners are concerned about sustainability and environmental responsibility. She’ll talk about a number of prairie plants that grow well here with pictures of each of them.

On April 28, anyone interested in container gardening has an opportunity to hear from one of the most widely recognized experts in the field, when horticulturist and author Ray Rogers joins the Door County Master Gardeners for “Spectacular Container Planting.” Containers can add color, variety, and excitement to gardens of any size. Knowing how to choose the best plants, arrange them, and care for them is a great skill to possess.

Rogers has won numerous awards, including more than 80 top prizes at the Philadelphia International Flower Show, for his work with containers. He currently writes for American Gardener and for the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. For more information visit dcmga.org.
