Healthy Adolescent Dating Seminar to be Held in Sturgeon Bay

• Local environmental groups are hosting a forum on the impact of modern agriculture on health. The forum, called The Rural Health Dilemma, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 9 am to 4 pm at Stone Harbor Resort, Sturgeon Bay.

Featured speakers are former DNR supervisor Gordon Stevenson, Dr. Jeanne Hewitt from the UW-Milwaukee Children’s Environmental Health Sciences Core Center, Dr. Keeve Nachman from Johns Hopkins University’s Center for a Livable Future, Dr. John Ikerd from the University of Missouri and Steve Roach from the Food Animals Concern Trust.

To register, email [email protected] and put “Health Forum” in the subject line. The registration fee is $35 per person, which includes lunch. The organization exhibit fee is $35. A special room rate is available for attendees.

• The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection is hosting monthly local food business seminars starting in November. The nearest seminar location is Green Bay, held on Thursdays at 8:15 am.

The first seminar, held in Green Bay on Nov. 7, is called Put Your Local Food Business Idea to the Test. Attendees will learn practical strategies for testing business ideas and hear examples of other business start-ups.

A seminar for parents about safe and healthy dating for local teens is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 17, from 6 to 8 pm at Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay. Parents who attend will be able to discuss their concerns with adolescent dating and learn what they can do to support healthy teen relationships.

Presenters are Barbara Ball, a program evaluation specialist from SafePlace in Austin, Texas; Barri Rosenbluth, program director for Expect Respect; and youth leaders from Expect Respect in Sturgeon Bay High School.
