Honorable Mention – “Winter Field”

A flock of words
Fell black on the page
Like crows settling down
In the drifted white
And corn stubble
They drop in by 2’s and 3’s
Searching for correspondence
Their inky beaks
Scratching like nibs
Among the double spaced
Ragged rows
Searching for autumn’s remainder
Brittle scraps of sun and rain
Scattered like shards of amber
Among the frozen clods
