Katie Dahl Kickstarts New Album

Door County singer-songwriter Katie Dahl has launched a fundraising campaign to raise funds to record a new album. The campaign, run through the popular crowd-funding website Kickstarter, met with strong early success: Dahl raised more than $6,000 in the first 48 hours.

“I was really blown away by how generous and quick people were with their support,” said Dahl. “We’ve still got a ways to go, but this response definitely makes me feel hopeful.”

Under the Kickstarter model, contributors to Dahl’s campaign can receive rewards in return for their pledge, including copies of Dahl’s upcoming album, handmade pottery inscribed with Katie Dahl lyrics, Katie Dahl-themed granola, credit in the liner notes of the album, and performances by Dahl in their homes.

If Dahl does not meet her $10,000 goal by the time the campaign ends on Feb. 23, no contributors’ credit cards will be charged.

“With recording costs, publicity costs, and Kickstarter fees, I think it will cost $19,000 or more just to complete the record and get it out into the world,” Dahl says. “This Kickstarter campaign will allow me to make sure the album gets heard all over the place, not just in Door County.”

Dahl’s new album will be recorded in early February at Utopia Soundwurks studio in Sister Bay and will consist of 10 brand-new original songs from the award-winning songwriter. Dahl’s husband, Rich Higdon, will play upright bass on the recording; Memphis multi-instrumentalist and Door County favorite Eric Lewis will also be prominently featured.
