Learn about Peonies at Next DCMGA Program

Sue Zimmerman

The Door County Master Gardeners welcome Sue Zimmerman, a Jefferson County Master Gardener, to speak in a free public program about Wisconsin’s Intersectional Peonies on April 29 at 7 pm at Crossroads at Big Creek. Intersectional Peonies are a hybrid cross between a tree peony and an herbaceous peony, with the best characteristics of both parent plants. Intersectionals can only be created by dividing mature plants or grafting, but result in terrific flowers that many consider the most beautiful peonies available. Wisconsin has played a leading role in the development of these plants and that story is one Door County residents will enjoy hearing.

Zimmerman’s vision and leadership led to the development of the Roger. F. And Sandra L. Anderson Intersectional Peony Garden, located in the backyard of the Hoard Historical Museum in Fort Atkinson, Wis. This three-year-old garden is currently the largest public collection of Intersectional Peonies in North America.

This program is free and open to the public. For more information contact Bill and Sarah Freyman at 920.868.1749 or [email protected].
