Lend a Helping Hand

“The volunteers make Cherry Fest work,” states co-director Vicki Bley as the Jacksonport Historical Society (JHS) prepares for its 20th annual fundraising event on Aug. 2 in Lakeside Park and the Erskine Rest Area on Highway 57. “We are grateful to our friends and neighbors for their continuing support.”

Although there are volunteers who return year after year to help, there is always room for more people to cooperate in the various activities. Bev Ozburn, coordinator of volunteers, points out that “most volunteers sign on for a two-hour stint,” so dozens of people are involved. “There are many different opportunities for service,” she adds.

Proceeds from Cherry Fest go to the JHS museum development fund. Activities include a juried arts and crafts fair, face painting, a penny hunt for younger children, horse-drawn wagon rides, and musical entertainment.
