Letter to the Editor: Thankful for Our Nonprofit Human Service Organizations

On Nov. 15, the 2016-17 Leadership Door County class spent the day learning about human services in Door County. The 12 participants heard from and met with representatives of more than a dozen organizations and toured five facilities. There is much need in Door County – more than most people realize – but there are also outstanding nonprofit organizations helping community members meet those needs.

On behalf of the board of Leadership Door County and the class participants we would like to express our thanks to the following organizations that made the day so informative and memorable. Thank you to our morning host site, Prince of Peace Church and to the representatives from Door County Human Services, Door-Tran, Feed and Clothe My People, Habitat for Humanity, HELP of Door County, Literacy Door County, Money Management Counselors, Neighbor To Neighbor, PFLAG, United Way of Door County, Volunteer Center, and We Are HOPE, Inc.

We are grateful to the following organizations that opened their facilities for afternoon tours and information sessions: ADRC/Senior Center, Boys and Girls Club of Door County, Lakeshore CAP, and Sunshine House.

We realize that many more organizations could have been included in the learning day, and that the day could easily be two or more days. Whether mentioned here or not, thank you to all the people who work and volunteer at these organizations that strive to meet the needs of our community.
