Letter to the Editor: Voice Your Opinion on Cannabis

It’s time to ask the question. Communities all over the country are letting citizens weigh in on the subject at the ballot box. Yes or no on cannabis? Is it medicine? Should adults be able to use it recreationally? Everyone who lives in the City of Sturgeon Bay can voice their opinion on the subject when they vote in the Spring election on April 2nd. It will be a non-binding referendum and the two questions are:

Do you support the use of Cannabis for medical purposes?

Do you support allowing adults 21 years of age and older to engage in the personal use of Cannabis?

I will answer both questions yes. That is my opinion. Anyone that still denies that cannabis has medicinal value isn’t listening to reason. How many of us deal with glaucoma, chronic pain, seizure disorders, cancer, anxiety, treatment resistant depression, or PTSD? Sick people need safe and easy access to cannabis. Let them have it. Denying someone relief from what ails them is cruel. Keeping people from the medication they need because of old, outdated and misguided laws isn’t right.

I’m also absolutely in favor of legalization for adults. Cannabis is described as a “growth industry” in our country. It’s time to make the buying and selling of cannabis a legitimate and taxable industry. We need to fund our schools and fix our streets and making cannabis legal will provide much needed tax dollars to do both of those things. Please vote on April 2nd.
