Liberty Grove Hopes to Add New Water Access at Death’s Door Park

The Town of Liberty Grove could get a new attraction as soon as this summer. The town is working with Neptune’s Dive Club to build a staircase at Death’s Door Park for divers, kayakers and paddle boarders to access the water.

The town has partnered with the club on a grant application to build the staircase that would be similar to the one near the lighthouse on Rock Island. Town Chair John Lowry said that if the grant comes through and things go as planned the staircase could be built this summer.

Death’s Door Park is located to the west of the Washington Island Ferry Dock.

Broadband Grant Under Consideration

The town’s broadband grant application is under consideration by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. The town has partnered with Door County Broadband and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College to pursue a grant to build three new towers and improve equipment at three existing towers to expand wireless broadband access in the town.

The total project budget of $237,520 would include $118,760 in grant support, $56,880 from Door County Broadband, $56,880 from the Town of Liberty Grove, and $5,000 from NWTC.
