Liberty Grove Looks at Historic Registry

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove, providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tidbits of information about goings on in town government.

• The Plan Commission is working with the Liberty Grove Historical Society to develop a historic registry that would list historic sites and buildings within the town. They are hoping to be able to designate buildings and sites with the owners’ permission and provide that information to residents and visitors. If you own or know of sites and buildings that should be considered please contact the Town Office. Criteria would be age, significance and relationship to the town, information on the building, and property ownership history.• The Town Board has approved and sent to the County the Plan Commissions recommendation of a text amendment to allow off premise parking in the Heartland zoned areas. This will allow a parking area to be developed at the Garrett Bay launch ramp.

• John Touscany, Secretary of Neptune’s Dive Club, made a presentation to the Waterfront Committee on possible staircases for public access to Death’s Door waters. Additional information including various designs, cost, possible funding sources, and best access points is being gathered.

• The IT Committee is looking for additional committee members. They meet once a month and address various Internet issues impacting the town and residents. They were instrumental in getting a new town website and the Nixle warning system. Continuing discussions are being held on high-speed Internet access for town residents and businesses. If you are interested please contact the Town Office.

• The Board will set two informational meetings on the possible purchase of the Gills Rock parcels. An informational mailing to all property owners in the town is also being planned. The Board will also set the date for a special Town Meeting to decide whether to proceed with the purchases. Statutes provide that town residents must authorize the Board to make any property purchases. Information is available on the town website.
