The Clearing in Ellison Bay is providing a rare opportunity to view and purchase from a body of work, entitled “Just Hangin” by watercolorist Win Jones, who taught watercolor workshops at The Clearing for 37 years.
A retired watercolor and art history professor from Northern Illinois University, Jones has taught adult watercolor workshops throughout the Midwest and Florida. His own ethereal and mood-evoking watercolors are unique in style and certainly unmistakable in content. An eerie, dream-like quality is a consistent in his work.
In one series, haunting 19th century apparitions drift through 20th century airline terminals. In another series, elaborately dressed scarecrows dance through a deserted field, waving the American flag. Far from being just “pretty” paintings, they allude to personal interpretations of space and time as well as considerations about “who we might be” in today’s environment. This exhibit will be on display through August 26. A portion of sales will be donated to The Clearing. An informal artist reception will take place on July 19 from 5 – 8 pm.
The Jens Jensen Center at The Clearing is located at 12171 Garrett Bay Road in Ellison Bay. The center is open 8 am – 4 pm from Monday – Friday and 12 – 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
