And Luke Spude of Southern Door High School was named this year’s Door County Idol.

On Jan. 5, Spude along with five other talented teens from throughout the Door Peninsula – Dominique Bowers, Katie Glabe, Bjorn Kettering, Alix Boettcher, and Genevieve Pelrine – competed for the title by singing two songs to over 200 audience members at Southern Door Community Auditorium. Spectators also included three judges – Door County favorite Dorothy Scott, known for her daring performances and amazing guitar playing; broadcaster Nic Freimuth, who returned as a judge for the fourth time; and Dr. James Hiese, a doctor at Ministry Door County Medical Center and fan of a variety of musical genres – who provided commentary following each participant’s performances.

Spude was awarded $1,000 for his win, while runner-up Bjorn Kettering received $300, and the others $100.

The evening also featured performances by 2012 Door County Idol runner-up, Trevor Hietpas, and 2012 Steel Bridge Songfest winner, Brittany Hallett.
