Relevant Experience or civic involvement:  Former Sevastopol School Board member; Third term on Jacksonport Town Board; member Jacksonport Advancement Association; Member League of Women Voters.

What is the biggest challenge facing the county and how would you address it?

To stay on budget. Spending money wisely and conservatively. From my farming background, I’ve learned that if you don’t have it you don’t spend it.

If the board were forced to make budget cuts, what would be the first things to go?

I don’t think I would cut any one thing in particular, but have all departments reduce their spending to save money and try to stay in budget.

What do you see as the board’s duty to the residents and businesses in the county?

To provide a safe place to live, good roads to drive on, and have the services that are needed available to the residents of Door County.

What is the biggest challenge facing the county and how would you address it?

Keeping a balanced budget without losing services to our citizens. The budget that we have now is really tight. We have levy limits put on the county by the State of Wisconsin which is a zero increase in the budget. Operation costs go up which means some services could go away. We should lobby the State to do away with the levy limits. We should keep looking for other sources of revenue. Revenues could come thru grants, fees for services, or through donations. Friends groups are a good source for donations that could be spent for designated projects. We have Friend groups for the County Parks, Library, in progress for the Senior Center, and more.

If the board were forced to make budget cuts, what would be the first thing to go?

I think that small cuts would have to be across all departments as we did in the last budget. The place I would go to achieve this is the health insurance plan. The County plan has a small deductible that could be increased to save on the total cost of the plan.

What do you see as the board’s duty to the residents and businesses in the municipality?

To make sure that their health and safety are promoted through county services. We should continue to plan for the future to maintain the quality of services that our residents and businesses expect. Also the board should strive to maintain its vision and mission statements and be openminded to future challenges they may be faced with.
