New Hire Puts Gibraltar Administrative Team in Place

Fish Creek – Gibraltar school officials took quick action this month to replace the principals who resigned or took jobs elsewhere earlier this spring.

One week after promoting Lisa Wing to interim elementary principal and director of learning, the school board approved on June 21 hiring James DeBroux as the new secondary-school principal. DeBroux has his administrative licensing and has been serving as a social studies teacher and activities director at Random Lake High School.

The district had 20 applicants for the position and interviewed five, according to Superintendent Tina Van Meer.

With district enrollment falling from 693 in 2001 to 493 this past school year, the board has reduced its administrator payroll from four principals and curriculum and pupil-services leaders to principals handling a combination of duties.

The new middle school/high school principal will take on some of the duties currently handled by the athletic director as well. School leaders determined that the athletic director had several duties that were administrative in nature, and those should be handled by, or have contributions from, the high school principal.

Those shared duties include helping to prepare and administer the athletics/activity budget, requisitioning supplies and equipment, and attending conference athletic directors’ meetings, Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association meetings and local meetings.
