Nordic Walking and Uganda Highlighted in Presentations

Ecology Sports and Base Camp Coffee Bar will continue to host a series of events throughout the course of the summer that address and exemplify active, conscious lifestyles.

On Friday, July 25 at 7 pm, Base Camp Coffee Bar will host the third part in a travel series presented by Keith and Ursula Leedy of Baileys Harbor. Traveling the world has been the Leedy’s passion for over 40 years, and in this presentation, they will address Uganda, a country that is still struggling from the effects of dictator Idi Amin and working hard to once again live up to the description Winston Churchill gave it, “The Pearl of Africa.” After visiting villages, schools, the source of the Nile and a Pygmy group, as well as viewing mountain gorillas in the wild, the Leedy’s are giving a presentation on their experiences that is open to the community and free of charge. Their next presentation will be Friday, August 15 on China and the Border Kingdoms, including Tibet.

On July 27, Ed Urbanski, a certified Leki Nordic walking instructor, will lead a clinic on Nordic walking. The activity is a great way to walk off stress, reduce pressure on your joints and burn calories – a walk is transformed into a total-body workout with Leki Nordic walking poles. In fact, oxygen consumption can be increased by 25 percent without walking faster or longer. Those interested in the clinic should meet at Ecology Sports at 11 am.

Ecology Sports and Base Camp Coffee Bar are located on the north end of Sister Bay at 10904 Highway 42. For more information call 920.854.5724.
