Obituary: Janina Danuta Szwaczka

Janina Danuta Szwaczka died on July 3, 2021 after a short stay at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Green Bay, WI.

Janina was born in Torun, Poland to Zygmunt Szeferski and Wiktoria Zakrzewska on January 28, 1956. She succeeded her parents, two sisters and a brother, as well as her beloved husband, Tadeusz, in death.

Janina graduated from high school with a focus in Chemistry and worked as a chemist for several years before coming to the United States. She met her future husband, Tadeusz Szwaczka, in Milwaukee, WI, and together they built a retail business in several locations, including Door County, called European Gifts. After Tadeusz’s death, Janina continued to run the business in Egg Harbor, WI. Janina was an enthusiastic shop keeper who delighted customers with her Polish accent and wry and candid sense of humor. She had a special rapport with young people, and youngsters returned to her shop year after year to visit her.

Janina is greatly missed by nephews and nieces and their families in Ireland and Poland. Shop owners and employees at the Main Street Shops in Egg Harbor, and hundreds of customers who have been visiting her store for over 30 years also miss her dearly.

No services will be held.
