Obituary: Violet J. Knipfer

June 19, 1921 ~ February 1, 2022

Violet J. Knipfer, 100 (and eight months), of Sturgeon Bay, died at The Skilled Nursing Center at Door County Medical Center on February 1, 2022.  She was born on June 19, 1921 in Milwaukee, WI to Minnie (Pillath) and Andrew Cimino.  She married Edward J. Knipfer in 1944 in Sturgeon Bay.

Violet was an avid and gifted cook and baker.  She especially loved Christmas, baking dozens and dozens of cookies while listening to Frank Sinatra sing Christmas carols.  Friends and family eagerly awaited the trays of cookies and homemade candies she gave them. Violet was always on the hunt for new cookie recipes to try out even into her eighties.   She always remembered everyone’s favorites.

She is survived by her son William Knipfer (Nashville) and daughter Bonita Knipfer (Boston), her beloved niece Connie Larsen, and nephews Paul Knipfer and Tom Knipfer and his wife Ellen Knipfer. She also leaves behind special friends Ann  Wickman-Tong and Ann Schachtner.   She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edward and her brother Andrew Cimino.

Special thanks to the caregivers at DCMC and Unity Hospice.

Donations in Violet’s memory can be made to The Skilled Nursing Facility at the Door County Medical Center.

Private burial services were conducted at St. Joseph Cemetery.  Forbes Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
