Opening Day Hike on Nov. 23 at Crossroads

The Friends of Crossroads are busy preparing the Collins Learning Center for the holidays and the center’s lower level for ski season. Any day now (Crossroads hopes) snow will blanket the preserve and the Winter Outdoor Programs can begin.

Crossroads, in collaboration with Ministry Door County Medical Center, encourages walking in the snow. Folks are invited to borrow snowshoes and explore the entire preserve (except the ski trails) on Sunday afternoons. Once snow is deep, Crossroads grooms walking trails.

This winter, thanks to Boy Scout Troops 1022 and 1041, Crossroads has several new trails, and the Crossroads Building and Grounds Committee has re-designated several former ski trails for walking. The Planet Walk on Ole’s Trail (between the Collins Learning Center and the Astronomy Center) will now be a walking trail, which means hikers can use the Council Ring during Ski Season.

Many walkers avoid their normal routes during hunting season, and are invited to hike at Crossroads. On Nov. 23 at 1 pm there will be an opening day hike; hikers should meet at Collins Learning Center.

The Collins Learning Center, located at 2041 Michigan Street in Sturgeon Bay, is open 2 – 4:30 pm daily and during scheduled activities. For more information visit crossroadsatbigcreek.com.
