Operation Christmas Child Starts Collections on Nov. 12

Operation Christmas Child (OCC) starts their nationwide collection week, Nov. 12-18. An OCC drop-off location is First Baptist Church of Sturgeon Bay, 610 N. Fifth Ave.

“Packing shoeboxes with gifts for children in need is easy, fun, and incredibly meaningful. For most children receiving the boxes, this is the first and often only gift they will receive,” said OCC drop-off location team leader Pamela Parks.

Items to include in the shoeboxes are school supplies, toys, clothing, stuffed animals, and hygiene items like bar soap, washcloths, and toothbrushes. The shoebox gifts are distributed in more than 105 countries throughout the world.

To pack a shoebox gift, start with a standard-size cardboard or plastic shoebox. Fill the shoebox with new items for a boy or girl age 2-4 years, 5-9 years, or 10-14 years. A picture or note to the child receiving the box can also be included. Avoid packing liquids, perishables, glass, items that melt, war-related items, or used items. Paste the label on your box and add the suggested donation of $9 to help cover shipping costs. Shipping costs can also be paid online at

Designated drop-off hours are 4-6 pm, Nov. 12-16, and 12-2 pm on Nov. 17 and 18. For more information, visit or call Parks at 920.559.1240.
