Opportunity for Wisconsin Poets

Building on the success and popularity of the first “Verse and Vision” exhibition, Gallery Q 1108 Main Street Stevens Point invites Wisconsin poets to submit original poems for consideration as part of a second collaborative exhibition of art and poetry. Selected poems and the artwork inspired by them will be exhibited at Gallery Q from mid May until the end of June, 2012. Works will be honored at a reception May 18, 2012, as part of the Community Arts Walk celebration in downtown Stevens Point. Artists will be present, and poets will read their poems. Publication of a book containing selected poems and the corresponding works of art will be included in the project.

The artists are seeking poems to inspire their creative process while at the same time honoring the creative work of the poets. Poets may submit up to three poems with a fee of $3 dollars per poem. Suggested content of the poems might include nature, but more important, would contain vivid imagery that elicits strong feelings and sensations. Cash prizes will be awarded for Artist’s Choice ($50), Poets’ Choice ($50), and two Honorable Mentions (free copy of book).

Poets must be residents of Wisconsin and at least 16 years old. Poems should be no longer than 24 lines and may be submitted by either email or regular mail. Include at the beginning of your submission full name, address, phone number, email address, and the title(s) of your poems. For email submissions include poems in the body of the text or as separate attachments. Send to [email protected]. Entry fee checks should be made out to Gallery Q and sent to Verse & Vision at the above address.

Deadline for submissions is October 15, 2011. Poets will be notified by November 18 if their poems have been selected.
