Pakalske, Austin Attend Honors Music Camp

Southern Door High School students Dalena Pakalske and Amanda Austin will participate in the Wisconsin School Music Association’s (wsmamusic.org) 2021 High School State Honors Music Project. It provides musically accomplished students with the opportunity to rehearse and perform with some of the nation’s finest conductors in a professional and highly disciplined setting, and their concerts are open to the public. 

The experience includes a summer camp during which students engage in holistic lessons that incorporate history, theory, style, composition, text and culture. They also connect virtually with featured composers to learn about the music from those who wrote it.

Auditions were held virtually in February. Of the more than 1,100 auditions, 426 students in grades 9, 10 and 11 were invited to take part in the project’s ensembles. 

“Dalena [selected for the Treble Choir] and Amanda [selected for Band] are great ambassadors for the wonderful music program that is available to students at Southern Door and the expertise of our music department,” said Superintendent Patti Vickman.
