PenArt Hosts First Artist Critique Group

For many artists along the peninsula, the winter is the most productive time of the year. The busy days of the tourist season are fewer and farther between, allowing time to hunker down in the studio, determine a new direction and produce a body of work. Although having these quiet months to pursue longer-term projects is a gift, it can also be isolating.

To combat the studio blues, Peninsula School of Art (PenArt) will launch its first-ever community critique group. Aimed to help artists reflect on the purpose and progress of their artistic journey, these peer critiques will be filled with practical information from a variety of perspectives.

The critique group will meet on the first Friday of every month,  3-5 pm, in the painting studio at PenArt. Plan to share one piece — in progress or finished — with the group. Feedback will be delivered in an encouraging and informative written critique format, facilitated by PenArt’s director of education, Elysia Michaelsen. To sign up, email Michaelsen at [email protected].
