Quick Start Day Next Week in Sturgeon Bay

• A bill to amend the restrictions on the beginning of the school year is in front of the Assembly Committee on Tourism.

The school year is currently not allowed to begin until Sept. 1, but the bill would eliminate that rule.

• The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources may ask the state Natural Resources Board to authorize a hearing to discuss rule changes resulting from the state’s new mining law, according to the Associated Press. The new law relaxes mining regulations.

• Northeast Wisconsin Technical College will hold Quick Start Day, a one-stop event to get students enrolled in fall classes, on Tuesday, Aug. 6 from 2 – 6 pm on the Sturgeon Bay campus and all other NWTC locations. Attendees can meet with academic advisers, get expert advice on financial aid and admissions, complete a free college application (a $30 value), and register for fall classes. For students who have already completed the application process, NWTC faculty and staff will be on hand for questions about program requirements and class schedules.
