Sign Up for Door County Bluegrass Camp

(Left to right) Tommy Burroughs and Eric Lewis will teach at the Door County Bluegrass Camp.

The Door County Bluegrass Camp, which will run from August 1 through August 6 at Rowleys Bay Resort in Ellison Bay, seeks campers for its summer session. The camp features some of the best bluegrass musicians in the county, including local favorites Eric Lewis and Tommy Burroughs.

Morning and afternoon classes in instrumental instruction will include bluegrass bass, guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, dobro, slide, along with small group playing and jamming. There will also be elective classes including songwriting, music theory for bluegrass pickers, harmony singing, chart reading, and music writing. Campers will have an opportunity to sample a variety of instruments, learn instrument repair, and get a taste of contra dancing, yodeling, and mandolin building.

A camper concert will be held Wednesday, August 4 and a camper and instructor barn dance will be held Thursday, August 5. The public is welcome at no cost, though donations are requested.

Two instructor concerts, featuring Burroughs, Lewis, Billy Contreras, Karen Mal, Jody Wood, Rich Higdon and camp director Lynn Gudmundsen, will be held on July 31 at 4 and 7:30 pm at the Third Avenue Playhouse in Sturgeon Bay. Tickets are available at http://www.thirdavenueplayhouse.com or by calling 920.743.1760.
