Sign Up For Invasive Species Removal On Private Properties

The Door County Invasive Species Team is preparing for another season battling nonnative, invasive plants, but needs property owners’ consent for access to land.

On its home page, doorinvasives.org, property owners can find the “permission forms” pull-down for various types of invasive species. Deadlines for the forms are as follows: phragmites and wild parsnip due April 26; purple loosestrife, May 17; teasel, May 24; knotweed, May 31.

Individuals, groups and businesses may participate. This spring, for example, the Bay Shore Property Owners Association’s invasive species team leader was promoting the county’s program to remove invasive phragmites on properties at no cost to the owner.

Property owners who think they have the tall, feathery-topped grasses on their properties and want the county invasive species experts to make a site visit are invited to fill out a permission slip.
