Ski and Snowshoe for Free at Crossroads at Big Creek

Crossroads at Big Creek’s Collins Learning Center will be closed Dec. 25 and 26 and Jan. 1.

Attend the Ski for Free program Dec. 28, 9:30 am – 3:30 pm; and Dec. 29, 1-4 pm, when Crossroads and Door County Silent Sports will lend, free of charge, an array of ski and snowshoe equipment to fit age three through large adults. When trail conditions permit, go to the Crossroads maintenance building, where volunteers will fit you with equipment and share a few pointers and a trail map. When you’ve finished, return the equipment, and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate.

On Dec. 31, 3:30 pm, do the Sunset on the Old Year Hike: walk to the Utah Street Bridge, and, weather cooperating, see the final sunset of the year over The Cove. Hikers should be back by dark. Meet at the Collins Learning Center.

Then enjoy a New Year’s hike at Ida Bay on Jan. 1, 11 am. Start your 2020 bird list, or keep your resolution to get more exercise with an hour-long walk at the Ida Bay Preserve. Park along the side of Zenith Street.

The Collins Learning Center, 2041 Michigan St., is open weekdays, 10 am – 3:30 pm; weekends, 1-4 pm; and during scheduled events.
