Songwriting Class with Katie Dahl

Write On, Door County announces a special two-part songwriting class with acclaimed singer-songwriter Katie Dahl. As a society that plays music constantly, we all have an innate, finely honed sense of what we like in a song. Together, class participants will analyze some of their favorite songs: How are they constructed? What elements make them work? They will then use those elements to construct songs. Basic instrumental skills (guitar, ukulele, piano) are helpful. A willingness to sing aloud is essential.

Katie Dahl has two studio albums to her credit, County Line (2009) and Leaky Boats and Paper Birds (2012). Her musical, Victory Farm, co-written with James Valcq and Emilie Coulson, premiered to high acclaim in 2012 and has since been made into a live cast album. She has performed her original songs everywhere from the dusty cliff country of Mali, West Africa, to the winding canals of southern France, to the cedar forests of the American northwoods. She is at work on a new album.

In order to allow people to feel comfortable singing loudly and playing music, the class will be held at a private home in the Fish Creek area. Location information will be provided with registration. Class enrollment is limited. Cost for the six-hour class is $120.
