Sturgeon Bay Grad Enters Peace Corps

Sturgeon Bay High School graduate Emilie Schartner planned to leave for Mongolia on May 29 to begin training as an English education teacher volunteer with the Peace Corps. The daughter of Jodie and Jesse Schartner earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Lakeland University.

“I am excited to be completely thrown out of my comfort zone and immersed into a culture so different from my own,” Schartner said.During the first three months, she will live with a host family in Mongolia to become fully immersed in the language and culture. After acquiring necessary skills, Schartner will be sworn into service and assigned to a community, where she will live and work for two years with the local people.
