Sturgeon Bay Hosts “Fire & Ice” Festival

The Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center will host the annual “Fire & Ice” weekend from Feb. 18 – 20.
Beginning 8:30 am on Saturday, ice carvers will begin the process of turning snow and ice into art. The citywide ice carving competition will feature local ice artists, along with professional carvers who have won awards from competitions spanning the globe.
Ice carvings will be found on the West Side, 3rd Avenue and Jefferson Street business districts; the snow blocks will be carved at Sawyer Park with additional small snow forms available for budding artists to try out their carving skills.
The Pioneer Fire Department will also be at Sawyer Park serving up brats and burgers, while the Door County Maritime Museum will serve hot chocolate and treats. The Door County Trolley will be touring town from 11:30 am – 2:30 pm.
At 2 pm, judging of the finished ice blocks will begin; an awards ceremony will take place at 3 pm at the Visitor Center. The public is also invited to vote for their favorite carving for the People’s Choice Award. Event maps with ice and snow block locations will be available at most businesses throughout the weekend or at the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center office, located at 36 S. 3rd Avenue.
Saturday night, Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center and Stone Harbor Resort will host the annual “Fire & Ice” Dinner/Dance and Silent Auction. Attendees will enjoy a meal followed by a performance by Little Vito and the Torpedoes.
