DCA Presents Songwriter Charley Crockett in Concert June 29

On Wednesday, June 29, at 8 p.m., one-of-a-kind songwriter Charley Crockett will perform on the Door Community Auditorium (DCA) Main Stage.

Part neo-country-western, part bluesman, Charley Crockett is a powerful storyteller and songwriter. Sad, uplifting, hard, and sweet, complex and delicate all at once, his songs are like life itself, just like the songs’ creator: like nothing you’ve heard or seen before, a genuine Texas original. He sings them in his one-of-a-kind voice: plaintive, lines phrased around the beat like a jazz singer, expounding on personal relationships and the world beyond.

Texas Monthly writes, “Crockett’s sound is a vibrant kaleidoscope that constantly morphs, shifts, and melds an assortment of country soul, cajun folk, stirring blues, effortless R&B, and a multitude of other American roots music as fresh as it is familiar . . . rich and boundless and steeped in tradition.”

Young Texas songwriter Vincent Neil Emerson will open the show. Rodney Crowell says of Emerson, “If he grows on the public the way he’s grown on me, it’s possible young Vincent will plant the flag of his [songwriting] forebears firmly in the consciousness of a whole new generation.”

Charley Crockett’s performance is made possible with support from presenting sponsor Nathan Nichols & Company.

The show begins at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29. Tickets range from $45 to $78. Visit the DCA website for more information about current Covid protocols.
