Two New Head Coaches for Boys Hoops

Two Door County head varsity boys basketball coaching vacancies were recently filled.

Following the departure after last season of Gibraltar head coach Justin Burress, who led the Vikings to their first state-tournament appearance in school history, the Gibraltar School Board on Monday hired former junior varsity coach Travis Ward to take over the varsity program in 2022-23.

The Sturgeon Bay School Board last week filled its vacancy – created following the death earlier this year of longtime boys head basketball coach Jim Benesh – with Rodney Owens, who previously coached at West De Pere and Appleton East and is currently an employment-program coordinator in northeast Wisconsin with the State Department of Corrections.
