UUFDC of Door County Presents Michael Moore’s “Sicko”

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Door County (UUFDC) will show Sicko, a film that investigates the American health care system, as well as the health insurance and pharmaceutical industry, on Tuesday, December 16 at 7 pm.

The controversial and humorous Michael Moore takes viewers to Canada, England, France and Guatemala, Cuba seeking medical care, discovering prescriptions for pennies on the dollar, at-home doctor visits, and no bankruptcies from health care debts.

In contrast to other nations, almost fifty million Americans are uninsured and those who are covered are often victims of insurance company fraud and red tape. The film includes interviews with individuals who believed they had adequate coverage but were denied care, as well as former employees of insurance companies who describe cost-cutting initiatives that encourage bonuses for insurance company physicians to deny medical treatments for policy-holders.

Sicko is part of the season-long series Movies That Matter sponsored by the UUFDC Social Responsibility Committee. Thought-provoking films are presented without charge on the third Tuesday each month. UUFDC is located at 10341 Hwy 42, Ephraim. For more information, visit http://www.uufdc.org or call 920.854.7559.
