Renewable energy has become more and more important in recent years as oil prices continue to increase. Yet many people still throw the most portable form of energy – batteries – in the garbage once they’re dead.
Most batteries are recyclable. Little Hoppers accepts household batteries at its drop-off location in Sturgeon Bay for a small fee, based on weight. Going Garbage also accepts most household batteries at its drop-off location in Sister Bay. Both locations also accept car and truck batteries. Little Hoppers actually pays out for them, while Going charges $10 per 100 lb. for handling, except in Liberty Grove, where a local government program covers the charge. Finally, Going also accepts most computer batteries, and Little Hoppers accepts computer backup battery systems (aka uninterrupted power systems, or UPS) for a $5 charge.
