Written Off, The Raising of America are Movies That Matter at UUF

Movies That Matter is teaming up with local community impact organizations, showing two movies in May at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Door County in Ephraim. On May 15 at 4:30 pm Written Off will be presented by the Door County Alcohol and Other Drug Coalition. On May 16 at 4:30 pm, The Raising of America will be presented by Door County’s UW-Extension Family Living Program and the Door County Partnership for Children and Families.

Written Off chronicles the life of Matthew Edwards, whose addiction to opioids began at age 15, after being prescribed pain medicine for a minor surgery. Edwards’ personal journals take the viewer inside an individual’s fight against opioids. A discussion after the movie will be led by Stephanie LaHaye, Community Impact Coordinator with United Way Door County.

The Raising of America seeks to reframe the way people look at early child health and development. Looking beyond parenting, the film explores how social conditions, public policies, and inequities impact our youngest children. A discussion after the movie will be led by Tenley Koehler, Family Living Educator of the Door County UW-Extension and Candis Dart from the Door County Partnership for Children and Families.
