Year in Review: Miss Wisconsin Journey Shined Light on Door County

Miss Door County 2010 Kimberly Sawyer took a star turn far beyond the bridge in 2011.

The Egg Harbor native and Gibraltar High School graduate won the Miss Wisconsin title in 2010, earning a trip to Las Vegas and a spot in the competition for Miss America.

While the 23-year-old didn’t get a lot of screen time, she did appear in the national TV broadcast Jan. 15. Her journey to Miss America generated much-needed excitement in the community through a long Wisconsin winter and publicity for her hometown.

In the lead-up to the pageant Sawyer used her notoriety to promote volunteerism, making dozens of appearances throughout Wisconsin, including many on the Door Peninsula. Those included a Dec. 2010 sendoff at the Door Community Auditorium that raised $13,125 for area charitable organizations.

The 2009 St. Norbert College graduate works as a business analyst for a supply chain management and fuel consulting company in De Pere.
