2009 Domicile Art Fair

Everyone is invited to the 21st annual A Fair at Domicile on Friday and Saturday, August 7 and 8, 10 am – 5 pm, Sister Bay. The creativity and quality of several dozen of Domicile’s Wisconsin artisans, all making their only Door County appearance this year, will be highlighted in the orchard surrounding Domicile. Live music is also featured Friday and Saturday afternoon.

Stroll the grounds and meet the artists displaying jewelry, pottery, stained glass, mosaics, papier-mâché, functional and decorative wooden accessories, carvings, rag rugs, handbags, paintings, metal sculpture and more.

In the unique Domicile tradition, several artists will be demonstrating their techniques and craft during the Fair. Hank Bardenhagen and Ron Odegaard turn wood at the lathe. Learn how Mary Ross transforms paper pulp and glue into colorful papier- mâché bowls and such. Watch Ralph Malec carve Santa’s from Lake Michigan driftwood pieces. Pat Bishop crafts a pendant from stained glass. John Hansen throws pots at the wheel and creates his signature lighthouses. Ron Veldhuizen and Fritz Seybold carve. Sue Vineyard and Judith Rheberg paint and sketch while you watch.

Rick Harabes returns to Domicile with his llamas for the sixth summer. Meet the llamas and watch Harabes spin llama fiber into yarn using a spinning wheel. Llama yarn will be available for purchase during the Fair.

Music will also be featured both afternoons of the Fair. The Birch Creek Jazz Ambassadors, a student group from Birch Creek Performance Center in Egg Harbor, take the “stage” for a free concert at 1 pm Friday. Then on Saturday, 1 pm, Domicile welcomes folk singer Gerald Pellrine, co-founder of American Folklore Theater. Pellrine performs original songs and folk music with harmonica and guitar accompaniment, and he will be joined by fellow member of the 1984 Heritage Ensemble, Tim McNurlen.

Domicile and The Gallery at Domicile, located at 10592 Highway 57 in Sister Bay, just one block south of the Highway 42/57 intersection, will be open during the Fair. Plenty of convenient parking is available next door at Schoolhouse Park. For more information, please call 920.854.9005.
