A Helping Hand for the Holidays

The recent economic downturn has everybody watching their wallets, whether they have a 401k or not. In tough, uncertain times it may be harder than ever to be charitable, but for those on the bottom of the economic ladder, there may be no more important time to have a helping hand.

With unemployment rising, incomes declining, and the cost of necessities ever growing, more people than ever are turning to non-profits for that helping hand, especially with the holiday season upon us. So whether you can spare a dime, give an item you no longer need but others might, or can offer to volunteer, the organizations helping the less fortunate in our community need your help now more than ever.

Below are just a few examples of organizations that could use help this holiday season.

Feed My People / Clothe My People is a community based, volunteer program that exists to provide food and clothing to residents of Door County who are in need. Their Holiday Profiles program anonymously matches generous donors with needy families’ or individuals’ wish lists for holiday gifts.
