Acclaimed Organist Nathan Laube Performs at Shepherd of the Bay Church in Ellison Bay

Organist Nathan Laube brings his brilliant playing, audience-friendly programming, and gracious demeanor to Door County, when he appears in concert at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church in Ellison Bay on August 28 at 7 pm. A star among young classical musicians, 23-year-old Laube has quickly earned a place amongst the organ world’s elite performers.

Laube’s performances have earned high praise from both critics and peers alike. Following his performance at the Mother Church in Boston last month, a music critic wrote, “His playing speaks for itself with lucid phrasing, uncanny use of solo and ensemble color, and perception and depth unusual in someone his age” (The Boston Musical Intelligencer).

For his Door County program Laube will include his own arrangement of Johann Strauss, II’s Overture to Die Fledermaus.

A native of Chicago, Laube is a recent graduate of the renowned Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he studied organ and piano. At graduation he received the Institute’s two highest awards in academics and musical studies. As a 2010 recipient of a coveted William Fulbright Grant, he embarked upon a two-year sojourn to France, where he is studying organ at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Toulouse. His experience in Europe will include study on some of the France’s most venerable historic pipe organs in churches and cathedrals across the country.

Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church is located on Highway 42 in Ellison Bay. A free-will offering will be received. A reception following the program will provide an opportunity for concertgoers to greet the performer. For more information call 920.854.2988.
