Actors Portray Norse Myths at PSA Exhibition

An hour of original performances by Door County actors will precede the opening reception of the exhibition, “Norse Mythology, the Muse,” opening on Saturday, October 2 at Peninsula School of Art. At 4 pm, under the direction of Larry “Thor” Thoreson, 10 actors will perform four original adaptations of popular Norse myths in the Story Theater format favored by Paul Sills. Thoreson adapted three of the myths, while Carol Bleakley-Sills adapted the fourth. At 4:30 pm, Sue Daubner will perform costumed readings of other myths.

With both the performances and readings, the audience will be exposed to a diverse selection of myths. The stories range from a great sacrifice made by an honored leader to a comedic look at preventing a daughter’s marriage.

The actors include Rachel Garlitts, Leif Erickson, Jen Easton Erickson, Make Keene, Mark Moede, Erik Frost, and Amy Ensign. Mary Deneen and Martha Winter, who are participating in the exhibition as 3-D artists, will also be performing.

Thoreson says the one-night-only performance, which is free to the public, it truly a labor of love for the actors.

“All were happy to jump in,” he said. “We’re looking at artistic contribution; just as the 2- and 3-D artists are displaying their works in the gallery, the performing artists would like to take part in exploring these myths.”

The performance is free to the public.
