Algoma Marina Fire Started Inside Boat

Kenny and Betty Moe of Arcadia, Wis., have been spending their summers fishing in Algoma since the late 1960s. While the exact cause has yet to be determined, Algoma Fire Department Chief Thomas Ackerman Jr. said investigation into the June 23 fire that burned six boats at the Algoma Marina has determined that the fire began inside one of the boats. Ackerman said while there is speculation about the cause, his department’s final report has been forwarded to the Coast Guard and the insurance companies, who will continue the investigation. The fire caused the closure of the adjacent Crescent Beach for two days and the marina itself was closed for most of the weekend after the fire as the burned boats were raised and leaking oil and gas were contained.
