Around the Door: The Weird and Wonderful

Not a reptile, though that’s what this beached sturgeon seemed when approaching from the dunes, Tuesday, at Frank E. Murphy County Park beach. It had been there for a while – its insides were hollowed out – but the nearly 3–foot creature appeared as if it had just washed up and decided to remain.

On the wonderful side, an exotic-looking plant with an ordinary name – skunk cabbage – is a sure sign of spring. This one was spotted south of the Sturgeon Bay canal on Sunrise Shores Road. Photos by D.A. Fitzgerald and Phil Biebl, respectively.
