Author Trygvie Jensen to Read and Sign Books at Peninsula Bookman

To celebrate the release of his latest book on the commercial fishing industry on Lake Michigan, Trygvie Jensen will be at The Peninsula Bookman in Fish Creek reading from Through Wave & Gales Comes Fisherman’s Tales on Saturday, October 24 at 7 pm.

 

 

Through Waves & Gales is the follow-up to Jensen’s popular and well-researched Wooden Boats and Iron Men: A History of Commercial Fishing in Northern Lake Michigan & Door County 1850-2005.

 

 

Through Waves & Gales Comes Fisherman’s Tales is a comprehensive oral history of the Lake Michigan commercial fisherman. Accounts and reflections of harrowing stories caught in violent storms, ice shoves, strange occurrences, and humorous stories that will give the reader insight to what a commercial fisherman went through to eek out a living on the Great Lakes. It will also give the reader a better understanding of what sort of challenges that befell commercial fisherman in the last 70 years, through many interviews and reflections by the few remaining commercial fisherman. The last chapter is all about the fishermen and their boats to which they plied the waters of Lake Michigan and Lake Superior to make a living in a waning industry.
