Barb Chisholm Honored by American Nurses Association

The American Nurses Association (ANA) has designated 2017 as the “Year of the Healthy Nurse.” The association also designates National Nurses Week, which ended May 12. The theme of this year’s National Nurses Week was “Nursing: the Balance of Mind, Body, and Spirit.” It’s all about celebrating nurses who lead the charge for health and wellness.

To honor Nurses Week this year, ANA and the Door County Medical Center (DCMC) would like to highlight the incredible career of Barb Chisholm, RN CEN, who worked here at DCMC (when it was called Door County Memorial Hospital) from July 1969 to her last day in September 2016.

In the DCMC Emergency Department lobby is a shadow box with Chisholm’s white nurses cap and her school pin.

“At one time, caps were traditionally worn by all nurses. A person could tell where the nurse had graduated by the cap she wore as each nursing school had a different cap,” said Barb Chisholm, RN CEN.

Let’s celebrate Barb Chisholm and all of our nurses who provide such compassionate and exceptional care to our community.
