Bauernmalerei Demonstration

Door County Art League (DCAL) artist Marjory Allingham will be demonstrating Bauernmalerei from 10 am – 5 pm on Saturday, May 31 at the Door County Art League Gallery in the Top of the Hill Shops on Highway 42 and County F in Fish Creek.

Allingham has been practicing the art of Bauernmalerei, a style of folk painting that originated in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, since 1976. She uses acrylic paints to decorate wooden objects, and also furniture, doors, kitchen cupboards, mantelpieces, and ceiling beams. Before Allingham begins a project, she must fill nail holes, sand, and paint a background color on the object to be painted. Next, she either sketches a design on paper, draws it with chalk on the object to be painted, or freehand sketches the design directly on the piece.

The gallery manager, Jane Delcarson, plans to have weekly demonstrations by DCAL artists at the gallery. Upcoming artists demonstrating watercolor, oil, and acrylic painting, as well as pastel drawing include Sally Everhardus, Dianne Saron, Audrey Off, Pat Olson, and Sally Berner.
