Become a Master Naturalist

In 2015, The Clearing, Whitefish Dunes State Park, and the University of Wisconsin-Extension’s Wisconsin Master Naturalist (WIMN) Program are partnering to offer the Wisconsin Master Naturalist curriculum, which focuses on Wisconsin’s ecology – the geology of the land, the organisms and natural communities found throughout the state, and the ways in which humans and the environment affect each other.

Similar to the Master Gardener program, this WIMN Volunteer Training provides 40 hours of coursework in natural history, interpretation and conservation stewardship. The volunteer training course will be held at Whitefish Dunes State Park on Fridays beginning Jan. 9 and ending Feb. 27. The registration fee is $250.

Sessions combine classroom instruction with field experiences. Volunteers will complete a capstone project, a short-term volunteer project in interpretation, stewardship or citizen science activity. Once trained, WIMN Volunteers must volunteer 40 hours each year and take eight hours of advanced training to maintain their certification.
