Belgian Heritage Center Hosts Annual Kermiss

The Belgian Heritage Center is hosting its annual kermiss – a traditional harvest festival featuring Belgian food, beer, music and camaraderie – on Aug. 21, 11 am – 4 pm.

The popular band Mad Cats will provide its mix of country, rock and pop music, 11 am – 3 pm. Antique farm-implement demonstrations will illustrate life on the farm, and history buffs can peruse the center’s exhibits and take a guided tour of the campus’s historical 1894 schoolhouse.

Don’t miss the one-time showing of the new History of Belgian Booyah video at 1 pm or the raffle and silent auction.

Food offerings include booyah, trippe, hamburgers, jutt, Belgian pies, tortes and old-fashioned ice cream made on-site by using the power drive on a tractor. In addition to the regular beer selection, brews from two of the area’s craft breweries, Thumb Knuckle and Noble Roots, will be served.

All proceeds will benefit the Belgian Heritage Center (belgianheritagecenter.org), 1255 Cty DK in Brussels, and its projects.
