Bits & Bites: Door County Wineries Bring Home Gold, Popular Setting Gets New Life with Unbeatable View

Door County Wineries Bring Home Gold

At the 21st annual Finger Lakes International Wine and Spirits Competition, Door Peninsula Winery’s Sweet Cherry Wine earned a double gold medal and won Best in Class. The winery also brought home a double gold medal for its Modern Cider. The prize for Best Liqueur went to von Stiehl Winery for its Cherry Bounce.

Both wineries also earned awards for several other submissions as well, with locally grown fruits beating out other famous ingredients such as Oregon blackberries and Georgia peaches.

Popular Setting Gets New Life with Unbeatable View

This historical cottage on the water in Fish Creek has a fresh look as the new home of Bayside Coffee. Owner Robert MacDonald has renovated the space to offer quick service and a rustic-modern aesthetic.

Alongside its full coffee menu, Bayside Coffee sells bagels, scones, croissants, breakfast sandwiches, avocado toast and quiche, plus lunch options such as Mandarin chicken salads, Italian sandwiches and more.

Great Brews in a Great Spot

Jason and Sarah White have transformed the former auto-body shop at 2450 S. Bay Shore Dr. in Sister Bay into the Peach Barn Farmhouse & Brewery.

Currently operating out of a walk-up window, the Whites plan to add indoor seating to their beautiful outdoor space later this year. Salty snacks are on offer, along with Peach Barn brews, including Where Harry Met Sally Farmhouse Ale, named after Sarah’s grandparents, Dr. Harry Schwartz and Sally, who built a cabin in Garrett Bay. They had children, who had children, and now all five generations share a love for Door County.
