Bjorklunden Screens “The Economics of Happiness”

The Climate Change Coalition of Door County will screen The Economics of Happiness, an acclaimed film about the costs of globalization and efforts to reverse it, at 7 pm Wednesday, March 4, at Bjorklunden, Baileys Harbor. The film is free, and the public is invited.

Economic globalization has led to a massive expansion in the scale and power of big business and banking. Many believe it has also worsened many critical problems: fundamentalism and ethnic conflict; climate chaos and species extinction; financial instability and unemployment.

The Economics of Happiness describes a world moving simultaneously in two opposing directions. On the one hand, government and big business continue to promote globalization and the consolidation of corporate power. At the same time, all around the world people are resisting those policies, demanding a re-regulation of trade and finance. And they’re starting to forge a very different future. Communities are coming together to rebuild ecological economies based on a new paradigm – an economics of localization.

In the film we hear voices from global leaders on six continents, all urging us to bring the economy home. The Economics of Happiness challenges us to believe that it is possible to build a better world.
